Transport Process I (CHE 533)
Course Description: This course covers unified treatment of momentum, heat, and mass transfer from molecular theory and continuum points of view. In addition, the course discusses continuum equations of microscopic and macroscopic systems and multicomponent and multiphase systems.
Specific course outcomes:
By the end of the course students will be expected to gain the following knowledge and skills:
· Basic facility in vector and tensor analysis
· Understand the physical meaning of vector and tensor operators
· Understand and apply differential equations for momentum, heat, and mass transfer
· Ability to non-dimensionlize basic transport equations and understand the meaning of the resulting dimensionless groups
· Understand the implications of the continuum approximation and the applicability of basic constitutive equations
